Research Projects
The current CSCN projects are:
Project 1
Risk factors for cardiovascular and cognitive dysfunctions in adult obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients: Identification of biomarkers and impact of working schedules
Project information
Objectives:
- To determine whether inflammatory and genetic markers predict the occurrence of cardiovascular disease (myocardial infarction, emergency angioplasty, cardiac death), metabolic disease (renal failure) and cognitive dysfunctions in OSA patients after controlling for a variety of potential confounders (including disease severity).
- To evaluate how work schedules interact with inflammatory biomarkers in OSA patients.

Project 2
Identification of obese children most at risk of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and the evaluation of neurocognitive, metabolic and cardiovascular functions
Project information
Objective:
To identify obese children most at risk of OSA and to determine the independent effects of OSA on cardiovascular, metabolic, and cognitive functions (prior to and after treatment for OSA).

Project 3
To evaluate how obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) impacts the cerebral mechanisms underlying Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI)
Project information
Objectives:
To evaluate how OSA impacts cognitive and cerebral biomarkers (beta-amyloid deposition, tau level in the cerebrospinal fluid, atrophy in the entorhinal cortex and the hippocampus, vascular brain damages) in patients with MCI.

Project 4
To improve access and adherence to obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) treatment
Project information
Aim 1
Improving Access to Care: Evaluation of a “Fast Track” Respiratory Therapy Clinic for Patients with Suspected Severe OSA
Objectives:
- To compare the clinical effectiveness of a clinic led by alternative care providers for patients with suspected severe OSA to physician-led management
- To compare the cost-effectiveness of these models of care using data on healthcare utilization, costs, and patients quality of life.

Aim 2
Economic Consequences of Improving Adherence to care: The Effect of Patient Decision Aids on Adherence
Objective
To determine whether treatment preference is associated with adherence to therapy.
